Free inspection, photos and a written estimate
A spring storm can cross Bullitt County in twenty minutes and leave a whole street wondering whether their roofs are okay. Some are, some aren't, and from the ground it's hard to tell. 3 Peaks Roofing, a locally owned Louisville roofer, inspects storm-damaged roofs in Mount Washington at no charge, documents what we find with photos, and helps you through the insurance claim if there's real damage.
What We Offer in Mt. Washington, KY
The insurance claim, step by step
For most homeowners, a storm claim is something they've never done before. Here's how it usually goes, and where we fit in.
1. The storm, and a free inspection. Before you call your insurer, it helps to know what's actually on the roof. We inspect the shingles, ridge, flashing, vents and gutters, and photograph any hail bruising, creased or missing shingles, and dented metal.
2. Deciding whether to file. We'll tell you plainly whether the damage looks large enough to justify a claim given your deductible. Sometimes a modest repair is the smarter move, and we'll say so.
3. Opening the claim. You contact your insurance company and report the date of the storm. Your photos and ours help describe what happened.
4. The adjuster's visit. Insurers typically send an adjuster to inspect the roof. They look for the same evidence we document: bruised shingles, broken seals, damaged soft metals.
5. Comparing the scope. Once the insurer decides what's covered, we compare their scope with our written estimate and help you understand any differences.
6. The work. Whether it's a repair or a full replacement, we do the work, clean up thoroughly, and walk the finished roof with you.
Throughout, we help you work through the process with your insurance company. Our storm damage insurance page has more detail on how claims work.
A few practical habits help while a claim is open. Keep one folder with the claim number, the adjuster's name and contact details, your photos, and copies of every estimate and letter. Jot down the date of each phone call and what was said. If your insurer pays in stages, keep track of what has been paid and what's still pending, and ask us if anything in the paperwork is unclear.

Signs of storm damage you can check yourself
Without climbing anything, walk around the house and look for:
-
shingles, tabs or ridge pieces lying in the yard;
-
dents in gutters, downspouts, window trim, or the metal vents on the roof;
-
piles of granules where downspouts empty;
-
chipped paint on the deck or fence on the side the storm came from;
-
dings on cars, mailboxes or patio furniture;
-
new water stains on ceilings or in the attic.
-
loose or missing caps on roof vents and chimney tops.
Any one of these is worth an inspection. Hail is especially hard to see from below, so our hail damage page explains what it looks like up close.
Storm weather in Mount Washington
Mount Washington is in northeastern Bullitt County, about 20 miles southeast of downtown Louisville, where US-31E and US-150 run through town and KY-44 crosses them. It shares the Louisville area's humid subtropical climate, where early spring often brings swings in temperature and severe weather isn't uncommon.
The city has grown fast. Its population went from 8,485 in 2000 to 18,090 in 2020, so many roofs in town are on newer homes. Storm damage on a newer roof can come as a surprise, but shingles of any age can be bruised by hail or unsealed by a strong gust.
Be careful after a storm
After a big hailstorm, it's common to see contractors knocking on doors. Before you sign anything, take your time. Ask for photos of the damage on your own roof, get the estimate in writing, and make sure you understand what you're agreeing to. A legitimate roofer won't mind you taking a day to think it over.
It's also fine to get more than one inspection. Comparing photos and written estimates side by side is the easiest way to see whether everyone is describing the same damage.
When storm damage means a new roof
Insurance and roofers both look at how widespread the damage is. A few creased shingles on one slope can be repaired. Hail bruising on every slope, or wind damage on a roof that was already worn, usually calls for a full replacement. If that's where your roof lands, the storm damage process stays the same: photos, written estimate, insurance help, install, cleanup.
Partial approvals happen too. An insurer might approve one or two slopes rather than the whole roof. If that would leave you with mismatched shingles or one section that's obviously older, talk with your insurer and with us about the options before work starts.
Serving the rest of Bullitt County
Along with Mount Washington, we handle storm damage throughout Bullitt County, including Shepherdsville, and across Louisville, Jefferson County, Oldham County and Southern Indiana.
If you've moved here recently and don't know your roof's history, a storm inspection doubles as a baseline. You'll have dated photos of the roof's condition to compare against after the next storm.

Mount Washington storm damage FAQs
How soon after a storm should I get my roof checked?
As soon as you reasonably can. Many insurance policies have time limits for reporting damage, and an unnoticed problem can turn into a leak once freezing weather arrives.
What does storm damage repair cost?
It depends on the extent of the damage, the roof's size and pitch, the materials involved, and how much your insurance covers after your deductible. The inspection and written estimate cost nothing.
Will my insurance company send someone out?
Usually, yes. Most insurers send an adjuster to look at the roof. Having your own photos and written estimate helps you understand what they find.
Can hail damage a newer roof?
Yes. Hail can knock granules off and crack shingles regardless of how new the roof is. A newer roof doesn't rule out a claim.
Do you also repair siding and gutters damaged by the storm?
Yes. We repair gutters and siding as well as roofs, so storm damage to the outside of the house can be handled together.
