Storm Damage Roof Repair in Jeffersonville, IN

/ Jeffersonville, IN

/ Storm Damage

Free inspection, photos and a written estimate

When a line of storms crosses the Ohio River, Jeffersonville usually gets the same hail and wind that Louisville does, often within minutes. What it leaves on your roof isn't always visible from the driveway. 3 Peaks Roofing inspects storm-damaged roofs across Jeffersonville and Clark County for free, photographs what we find, and helps homeowners work through the insurance claim when there's real damage. We're a locally owned Louisville roofer, fully insured, and we work on both sides of the river.

What We Offer in Jeffersonville, IN

A timeline for the days after a storm

Here's a simple order of operations that keeps you safe and protects your claim.

The first few hours

  • Stay off the roof. Wet shingles and damaged decking are dangerous.

  • Stay clear of any downed power lines and call the utility if you see one.

  • If water is coming in, move belongings, catch the drip, and take photos of the stain and anything damaged.

The first day or two

  • Walk the yard and photograph shingles, ridge cap pieces or gutter sections on the ground.

  • Look for dents on gutters, downspouts, window wraps, mailboxes and car hoods. They're good evidence of hail size.

  • Write down the date and approximate time of the storm.

  • If there's an opening in the roof, call us about tarping to keep more water out until a permanent repair can be made.

The first week

  • Schedule a roof inspection so you know what's actually there.

  • Read your homeowner's policy, or call your agent, to learn how and when storm damage needs to be reported.

  • Keep receipts for tarps, cleanup and anything else you spend protecting the house.

Shingle Roof

What hail does

Hail knocks the granules off asphalt shingles, leaving dark spots called bruises. Larger stones can fracture the mat inside the shingle. The roof may not leak right away, but those spots wear faster and can crack through later. Hail also dents soft metals like vents, gutters and flashing, which is often the easiest clue to spot from the ground. Our hail damage page has photos of the common signs.

What wind does

Wind gets under shingle edges and breaks the adhesive strip that holds each course down. The shingle might flip back into place, but it's no longer sealed, and the next storm can tear it off. Wind also lifts ridge caps and flashing and brings down branches. See wind damage for what to look for.

Storms often bring both at once, and the side of the house facing the storm usually takes the worst of it. That's why we inspect every slope, not just the one you can see from the street.

What a storm inspection covers

A good storm inspection looks at more than shingles. On ours, we check:

  • every slope of the roof for bruising, cracked or missing shingles, and lifted tabs;

  • ridge caps, hip caps and the edges of the roof, where wind does the most damage;

  • flashing at walls, chimneys and skylights;

  • vents, pipe boots and other roof penetrations;

  • gutters, downspouts and fascia for dents and pulled fasteners;

  • siding and window wraps on the storm-facing side;

  • the attic, when we can reach it, for fresh water stains.

You get photos of everything we find, whether it adds up to a claim or not.

Be careful who you sign with

After a big storm, crews from out of the area sometimes go door to door. Some are fine; some leave once the money's paid. Before you sign anything, ask for proof of insurance, a local phone number and a written estimate, and take a day to read it. A roofer who won't put the scope in writing, or pushes you to sign on the porch, is a red flag.

Working through the insurance claim

Your homeowner's policy may cover sudden storm damage like hail and wind. Normal wear and age usually aren't covered. Here's how we help:

  1. Free inspection of the roof, gutters, vents and siding.

  2. Photo documentation of the damage, which you can share with your insurance company.

  3. An honest opinion on whether the damage looks large enough to be worth a claim, or whether a simple repair makes more sense.

  4. A written estimate of the repair or replacement, so you can compare it with what your insurer approves.

  5. Help working through the claim, including explaining the paperwork and what the approved work covers.

  6. The work itself, then cleanup and a final walkthrough.

For more on how claims usually go, read our storm damage insurance page.

Jeffersonville's storm exposure

Jeffersonville is the Clark County seat, directly across the Ohio River from downtown Louisville. It shares Louisville's humid subtropical climate, where severe spring storms are common and the region sees occasional tornado outbreaks. The city also knows what severe weather can do on a larger scale: the 1937 Ohio River flood covered about 90% of Jeffersonville.

For roofs, the more everyday concern is the gap between a storm and the first leak. Hail in April may not cause a drip until the freeze season, which typically runs from early November into early April, works the damage open. If a big storm came through and nobody has looked at your roof since, it's worth an inspection now.

Repair or full replacement?

It comes down to how much of the roof was hit and its condition before the storm. A few missing shingles on a sound roof is a repair. Bruising across every slope, or wind damage on a roof that was already brittle, often means replacement. We'll show you the photos and explain which way your roof leans, so the conversation with your insurer starts from facts.

Storm damage on commercial buildings

Jeffersonville has a large commercial base, including the River Ridge Commerce Center on the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant land. We inspect and repair storm damage on commercial flat and metal roofs, checking membrane punctures, torn seams, lifted edges and dented rooftop equipment. Commercial property policies work differently from homeowner's policies, so check your coverage. We document the damage either way.

We handle storm damage throughout Jeffersonville and Clark County, plus Clarksville, New Albany and Louisville. See our Jeffersonville page for all our services in town.

Jeffersonville storm damage FAQs

How do I know if hail damaged my roof?

From the ground, look for dented gutters, downspouts and vents, and granules collecting at the downspouts. On the roof, hail leaves dark bruises where granules were knocked off. An inspection confirms it with photos.

Can you tarp my roof after a storm?

Yes. If a storm has opened up the roof, we can tarp the damaged area to keep water out until it's permanently repaired.

Do I call my insurer or a roofer first?

It's usually smart to have the roof inspected first, so you know whether there's damage worth reporting. Your policy may set a time limit for reporting storm damage, so don't wait long either way.

Will my insurance cover the damage?

It may, depending on your policy. Sudden hail and wind damage is often covered, while wear and age usually aren't. We document the damage and help you work through the claim.

Do you repair storm damage to gutters and siding?

Yes. We repair and replace gutters and siding, so storm damage to the outside of the house can be handled along with the roof.
