Roof Replacement & Repair in Jefferson County, KY

Jefferson County is a lot of ground to cover: about 398 square miles, from the Ohio River to the Bullitt County line, and from the Dixie Highway corridor out to the eastern suburbs. 3 Peaks Roofing is a locally owned, licensed and insured roofing company in Louisville, and we work across the whole county on homes, multi-family buildings, churches, schools and commercial property. This page is a guide to where we work and how to find the right page for your part of the county.

What We Offer in Jefferson County, KY

One county, many communities

Since the 2003 merger, Jefferson County and the city of Louisville have shared one government and one set of borders. But the small cities inside the county kept their status, and the older communities kept their names and identities. So a homeowner in Jeffersontown, Middletown or St. Matthews lives in their own city and in Louisville Metro at the same time.

For roofing, what matters more is that each part of the county has its own mix of houses, trees and buildings. Here's how we think about it.

Eastern Jefferson County

  • Jeffersontown is an independent city in the southeast, with established neighborhoods and a large business park full of low-slope commercial roofs.

  • Middletown is a home rule city in the northeast, named because it sat in the middle between Louisville and Shelbyville.

  • St. Matthews is one of the state's major shopping areas, built up along Shelbyville Road.

  • Prospect is a home rule city off US-42 that spans the Jefferson and Oldham county line.

Southern Jefferson County

  • Fern Creek is a historic community along Bardstown Road in the southeast, which moved from farmland to suburbs starting in the 1960s.

  • Okolona grew up around Preston Highway and the Outer Loop after GE's Appliance Park opened nearby in the 1950s.

Southwest Jefferson County

  • Southwest Louisville covers Shively, Pleasure Ridge Park, Valley Station and Fairdale, where much of the housing dates from the 1950s and 1960s.

If your neighborhood isn't listed, we probably still cover it. Call and ask.

Whatever part of the county you're in, the first step is the same: a free inspection, photos of what we find and a written estimate. The local details change what we look for, not how we treat you.

The weather every Jefferson County roof deals with

Louisville has a humid subtropical climate. Average yearly rainfall is close to 45 inches, summers are hot and humid, and snowfall averages under 13 inches a year. Severe weather isn't unusual, and the region sees occasional tornado outbreaks. In 1974 an F4 tornado struck Louisville during the Super Outbreak.

Day to day, three things wear roofs down here: summer heat that ages shingles on sunny slopes, spring storms that bring hail and wind, and a freeze season that usually runs from early November into early April. That last one turns small openings into leaks as water freezes and expands.

The county's big shade trees add a fourth: leaves in gutters and valleys, and limbs that come down in storms. Older neighborhoods with mature canopy see more of this than newer subdivisions, and it's one reason gutter guards and regular trimming pay off here.

How to choose a roofer in Jefferson County

Whoever you hire, a few things are worth checking:

  • Licensed and insured. Ask for proof. We're licensed and insured.

  • Photos, not just a verbal opinion. You should see what the roofer saw.

  • A written estimate that names the material and lists what's included, such as decking, underlayment, flashing and ventilation.

  • A clear plan for your property on install day. We protect landscaping, siding and walkways, and finish with a magnet sweep for nails.

  • Workmanship coverage. Our work is backed by our workmanship warranty.

  • Straight answers on insurance. We document storm damage and help you work through the claim. Be cautious of anyone who promises a free roof.

We've been at this for 15 years, with a team of 15 roofing experts and more than 150 completed projects.

A seasonal roof checklist for Jefferson County homeowners

You don't need to climb on the roof to stay ahead of problems. A few checks through the year catch most of them early.

Spring. After the first big storms, walk the yard and look for shingle pieces, granules piled at the downspouts, and dents in gutters and vents. Check upstairs ceilings for new stains.

Summer. Look at the south- and west-facing slopes from the ground. Curling or cracked shingles show up there first. On a hot afternoon, notice whether the attic feels like an oven. Poor ventilation ages shingles from below.

Fall. Clean gutters after the leaves drop, or think about gutter guards if you're under big trees. Have any stain or soft spot looked at before freezes start in early November.

Winter. After snow, watch for icicles hanging from the same spot every time. That can point to heat escaping into the attic. Check the attic on a rainy day with a flashlight, looking at the wood around chimneys, vents and valleys.

If anything on that list turns up, a free roof inspection will tell you whether it's a small repair or something bigger.

Our process

  1. Free inspection, including the attic when we can reach it.

  2. Photos of what we find.

  3. A written estimate.

  4. Help with the insurance claim if a storm caused the damage.

  5. Installation.

  6. Cleanup and a final walkthrough with you.

We're open Monday through Saturday, 7 AM to 5 PM, and we offer financing on new roofs.
